Chiropractic Care for  Rotator Cuff Problems in Pacific Beach, San Diego

How can we tell if the pain is a rotator cuff problem?

Chiropractic Care for Rotator Cuff Pain. Pain related to the rotator cuff or rotator cuff pain can manifest as dull, achy discomfort in the shoulder, particularly noticeable during arm movements overhead. There will be a noticeable restriction in motion of the arm to some degree. Typically, individuals experience pain at the front of the shoulder that may radiate down the arm. For those with a more severe rotator cuff injury, such as a partial or full tear, sharp pain and weakness can accompany a significant loss of motion in the shoulder. Over time, if not properly addressed, chronic restriction, joint stiffness, and tenderness in the shoulder may develop.

Why do we get rotator cuff problems?

The rotator cuff comprises several muscles, including the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis, collectively referred to as the SITS muscles. These muscles, along with the triceps and biceps, play a crucial role in stabilizing the shoulder joint during activities involving overhead arm movements like pitching, swimming, weightlifting, and racket sports serving. They also support repetitive day-to-day activities that exert significant weight or pressure on the arms. However, instability in the SITS muscles due to overuse or sports-related injuries can lead to rotator cuff problems.

How does Chiropractic help individuals recover from shoulder cuff pain?

Misalignments in the neck can cause imbalances in the shoulder muscles and nerves, increasing the susceptibility to rotator cuff injuries. If there’s a misaligned segment in your neck, your chiropractor will gently realign it using a targeted chiropractic adjustment. In cases of severe tears, surgical intervention may be necessary. Your chiropractor will also assess the spinal segments in your neck to address any misalignments that could contribute to shoulder muscle imbalances and nerve issues, thus reducing the risk of rotator cuff injuries.
